In the "P" plate driver category and many other pages I said that we need more highway patol cars to catch bad drivers as drivers who now go through speed cameras and traffic light cameras can blame someone else.
A highway patol officer can book the right person.

The ex federal court judge also was set to contest a parking fine in court today, but he has decided not to fight the charge and will pay the fine. I wonder what the excuse was, that he had intended to use.
I e-mailed this letter into a letters page but it was not printed.

It was a shame that the letter didn't make the cut, as I wanted to help highlight the fact that these lights are doing the job.
Peter Olsens took on the RTA with a common sense idea of cheap but effective flashing warning lights at school zones and having the media and voting motorists on side, the RTA/GOV could do nothing else but let him trial his lights.
I agree with Peter and as I've said all along, simple orange flashing lights on the existing signs, to make drivers aware of WHEN it's school zone.
Forget all the expensive over engineered solar powered nonsense

It really helped to have 2GB on your side and when there's an state election around the corner.
I just hope that this is not just a delaying tactic to keep the media at bay till after polling day.
Sometimes the people in power can be a little tricky
I read today that the bus lane on Epping road won't be in operation for six months, which will help to lessen the traffic chaos when the new Lane Cove tunnel opens.
I still expect there to be no toll "to help get drivers used to the tunnel" till........you guessed it, after the election date.
I very rarely drive past a commuter car park at Sutherland and not glance at the spot where there is a memorial plaque usually with flowers that have been put there by someone from the funeral place nearby.

This is how the car park looked when poor Janine was taken, abused and killed

Not long after, the area was sealed and landscaped and a row of shrubs and trees planted right along the road frontage.
I sent the council this letter after talking to Councillor Mikhail from Sutherland Council and after he inspected the carpark with me.
I wrote to him putting my concerns to pass onto the council.
Dear Councillor Mikail,
I wish to bring to your attention my concern to what I feel is a real safety issue at the council car park in Toronto Pde. opposite Acton St Sutherland.
Along the length of the car park roadside frontage, shrubs and bushes have over the years almost obscured from passing traffic what goes on in the car park.
The abduction from this very car park of Miss Janine Baldin and her subsequent horrific murder, shows what can happen, and the screen of foliage there now, is perfect cover for
anyone, whatever their intent is, as commuters return to their vehicles.
A person who works at a nearby business had the two (expensive) front seats removed and stolen from his car in broad daylight, while it was parked in this car park.
He’d came back to his car and the seats were gone, the thieves confident of not being disturbed, hadn’t bothered to take the car.
The new car park on Railway pd. at Jannali, is from a security point of view very good, and I feel that something similar needs to be done at Sutherland.
If someone can steal car seats in broad daylight, without being noticed by passing motorists, could what happened to poor Janine, happen again?
Public areas like this benefit with landscaping but groundcover, low bushes and trees with higher foliage like at Jannali, would be more appropriate.
Yours Faithfully,..........
I received this letter back

And this Monday the carpark had gone from this

to this new look.

Which gives passing motorists a clear view of what's going on in the carpark.
Well done Sutherland Council.
