Sin no more
I sent this into the Leader on Thurs 26 Nov
Dear sir,
The Sutherland Shire Mayor Lorrine Kelly recently spoke out about getting tough on graffiti, at a meeting in Gymea with Premier Rees.
She said, "That the new graffiti penalties before Parliament would not be effective, unless there were changes to the Young offenders act"
I agree, as the last 9 minors caught in the act of graffiti vandalism in the Shire, were all sent home "to sin no more," after receiving a Police caution, and this terrifying deterrent didn't stop others from spraying more large tags in my area.
Could I through the letters page, ask the Mayor to perhaps email her other 47 mayoral colleagues, whom no doubt have the same graffiti problems, that they get together and demand the Government change the way young criminals are dealt with.
I'm certain the ratepayers whose hard earned money is wasted on graffiti cleanup would welcome a more pro active approach by their elected leaders on getting change to the Young offenders act.
I would email the mayor myself, but the first ever email I sent to her last month, and a follow-up weren't acknowledged.
Regards
Hans Stephens
