Priority?

"Last Thursday a 22-year-old woman was attacked just two minutes from Waverley police station.
Police arrived almost an hour later. They told her her case had been given the wrong response category."

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/triple-0-go-slow-delays-mean-crime-time-in-sydney/story-e6freuy9-1225841558861

And an other example:

"A FAMILY with two young children spent two hours waiting for police by the side of the road after apprehending a boy who hurled a rock through the windscreen of their car, only to be told officers were too busy to respond. "

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/familys-wasted-wait-for-justice/story-e6freuy9-1225842084888

Where were the Police?

Well this morning there were two gainfully employed at the Kogarah Regent st. cab rank checking out the Taxis.

The driver of one taxi in pristine condition, with sunroof and shiny paintwork, a beautiful vehicle, not at all like the managed cabs I drove for ten years, was polite and courteous during all the seat-belt tugging, boot, interior and under bonnet inspection.

After thoroughly going over her Taxi and talking to the driver when he was finished, the driver obviously annoyed, slammed shut the two passenger doors and bonnet and hopped into her car.

The driver told me she had been booked for not ticking a couple of boxes on the back of her day sheet.

If she had forgotten to tick a box or two (which she told me wasn't necessary anyway) wouldn't a polite reminder have been sufficient?

It's hard enough to make a living driving a cab, without this sort of petty nonsense.

We need the Police to enforce regulations, but sometimes a gentle warning would be sufficient.

An "official police warning" is all the go for young graffiti vandals.

One example;

http://www.theleader.com.au/news/local/news/general/graffiti-teen-arrested/1660635.aspx

9 young graffiti vandals have been caught in the Sutherland Shire recently and all were given Police cautions and sent home.

Today in The Daily Telegraph was the answer to my question of 3 days ago

SNAP SURVEY - THERE'S WASTE AND RIP-OFFS IN SCHOOL BUILDINGS.

"MORE than half of the state's schools are unhappy with their new halls, libraries or classrooms built under the Federal Government's $14 billion education revolution.
Concerns include inferior work, waste and worries schools were being ripped off."

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/snap-survey-theres-waste-and-rip-offs-in-school-buildings/story-e6freuy9-1225839770618

I sent in this letter to The Daily Telegraph
.......................................................................
Dear sir,
I feel another roof insulation type scandal coming on, this time over over the school building program.(Waste and rip-offs in school buildings Fri 12) This whole thing about Mr Rudd handing out all this loot, it's easy spending someone elses money..
Call me suspicious but why is there along with the usual hard hat, safety glasses, no smoking, and safety boots signs on the fence around a Croydon st Hurstville school building site also a NO CAMERA sign.
I myself am proud of the work I do, and wouldn't mind anyone taking photos.
Regards
Hans Stephens

My letter wasn't printed.

How's the school hall building plan going?

Will it be the next roof insulation type headache for the Government?

"BUREAUCRATS have told a public school that it cannot build a hall for 320 students within a $2.5 million budget, even though a nearby Catholic school built one to fit up to 1000 students for less than half the price.

Beef Import Risk Analysis

I came in towards the end of an interview on radio by Alan Jones and Simon Crean Minister for Trade, and when I heard a "risk analysis" was done on beef imports my pupils dilated and I sent into The Daily Telegraph this email.

Alan Jones read out my letter ( a bonus) but said a part of the letter was wrong.

Mr Crean said towards the end of the interview,

"The independent risk analysis will not tell us any more than we already know"

http://www.2gb.com/index2.php?option=com_podcasting&task=playaudio&id=2&f=10&Itemid=41

I had missed the part where the minister was asked he hadn't had a risk analysis done?
